Leon Edwards might be an ambitious man but he would never go to the extent of calling out the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world right now. The British welterweight clowns his rival Kamaru Usman for wanting more than what he can chew.

UFC 278 will feature British welterweight contender Leon Edwards taking on the pound-for-pound UFC champion Kamaru Usman in a headliner fight. This is the first time a British fighter is contesting for an undisputed UFC title after many years. Edwards is locked in and ready to make history with a win in his rematch against Usman. Before this fight was booked, there were many doubts regarding the matchup coming through.

The welterweight star has run through the entire division and almost has done it twice. The Nigerian Nightmare wants to go out of the fight game with a lot of money in his bank and is now eyeing money fights to seal his legacy and career. Kamaru had called out Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez for a boxing match to decide who the pound-for-pound king in combat sports is. Leon believes his opponent was delusional for thinking he had a chance against Alvarez.

Edwards has already fought with Usman previously in 2015 and faced defeat via unanimous decision. Since then, Leon has improved massively and has gone on to win 10 fights in a row. He is yet to be beaten by an opponent inside the octagon since 2015 and is currently aiming at the welterweight gold. Leon believes he can exact revenge against his “delusional” opponent.

Leon spoke to the media ahead of UFC 278 in the media scrum. He also commented on the potential Usman vs Canelo fight. “I know I can’t beat Canelo in a boxing match. I’m not deluded. This guy’s [Kamaru Usman] deluded. He cannot beat Canelo. I know it’s a payday for him but boxing-for-boxing, he cannot beat Canelo. MMA? Yeah, he will win. Same, MMA, I beat Canelo. For a pure boxing match in the square, he would probably win,” said Leon while talking about a boxing match against the great Canelo Alvarez.

Kamaru and his team have gone a little silent on the Canelo fight and have shifted their focus to moving up two weight classes and challenging for the light heavyweight title. Leon plans on ruining Usman’s future plans with an upset victory this weekend at UFC 278.
