“I should decide who’s next,” Leon Edwards says no Dana White privilege for Colby Covington

Leon Edwards is as shocked as anyone else after Dana White announced that Colby Covington would be next in line for the title shot. The UFC 286 star, however, is ready to stand his ground on not fighting against Covington.

Colby Covington has fought for the welterweight title, three times in his last five fights. After getting beat by the former champ Kamaru Usman twice in a row, Covington has only gone on to win Jorge Masvidal. With the welterweight division stacked with worthy contenders, Covington being awarded another title shot has upset many people.

Dana White announced Covington being next for Leon Edwards after UFC 286. “I don’t know how that makes sense you know?” said “Rocky” at the post-fight press conference. “He hasn’t fought for a year-and-a-half. Sat out, not injured. I just don’t get how he slides in for the world title shot,” added Edwards.

Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns are two other fighters in the division that are now right in the mix for another title shot. Shavkat Rakhmonov, the rising welterweight talent is also eyeing a shot at the welterweight title.

Winner of Burns vs Masvidal should face Leon Edwards next

In the upcoming PPV card, co-headlining the event will be a stunning welterweight matchup between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal. At UFC 287, Leon Edwards believes he will find his true next contender. Both Burns and Masvidal are former title contenders who came close to beating Kamaru Usman.

The fight will take place in Miami and the new champ will be paying close attention to this bout. Other than Edwards believing Burns and Masvidal deserve the title shot more than Covington, ‘Rocky’ wants to settle his differences with the Florida fighter in the octagon.

Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal have a beef to settle given their infamous incident. According to Dana White, Covington will be next for the title shot while the winners of Burns vs Masvidal and Belal vs Shavkat could be in line after ‘Chaos’.
