Leon Edwards is on cloud nine after his ecstatic win against Kamaru Usman to become the new welterweight champion. Though Leon is open to defending his belt against Usman, the UK welterweight wants to finally settle his beef with Jorge Masvidal in the octagon.
It was truly funny when Jorge Masvidal was the first person to react to Leon Edwards’ amazing win against Kamaru Usman at UFC 278. “Gamebred” was quick to call his shot against Edwards after Rocky’s amazing headkick knockout against the Usman. After dismissing a fight against Leon for so many years, Jorge suddenly believes Leon is right for him.
The belt sure does change people’s perspective. Though it is very clear that Masvidal wants another shortcut to the welterweight belt, Leon Edwards is ready to let that slide and focus on settling his beef with the Florida native. Leon and Jorge’s relationship goes way back to when the two got into a scuffle in London.
Edwards got a taste of the famous “Two Piece and a Soda” from Gamebred. Since then this fight has always been in the making. However, Masvidal jumping on to call out Leon only after he won the belt while the UK fighter has always been open to fighting Jorge is quite funny to many.

There was a point when Masvidal wouldn’t give Edwards the shine before he became the champion and now it is almost as if the entire Masvidal crew is campaigning for a title shot against Edwards. Well, Jorge is lucky that the champ likes his idea.
“I believe Usman 3, early next year is the front runner. Unless something dramatic happens in the next months left this year,” said Leon confirming that he will most likely defend his belt against Usman next in a trilogy fight. Leon isn’t asking too much from Masvidal. All the champ wants is one win from “Gamebred” and they’re set to go.
“I loved the Masvidal one. I know it doesn’t end it but like let’s say go out there fight somebody like let’s say October or something, like a Burns or something. Just get one good win,” said Edwards in the BT Sport interview.
Masvidal and Gilbert Burns are in talks to fight each other next month. Leon believes Jorge winning this fight could potentially put him as the number one contender. How excited are you to see Edwards vs Masvidal?
