Luke Rockhold is considered to be a veteran of the sport and has been part of many UFC fights. The fighter was previously part of ‘Strikeforce’ and was later drafted to UFC in 2013. His career in the UFC was pretty impressive and Rockhold also held the UFC middleweight championship by defeating Chris Weidman in 2016.
Now Rockhold is not in a good spot in UFC as he has lost thrice in his last four octagon appearances. Currently, the fighter is scheduled to fight Paolo Costa at the co-main event of UFC 278 which is going to take place next week.
“People need to wake up” – Luke Rockhold wants fighters and fight fans to understand the unfair treatment of UFC
Luke Rockhold recently did a virtual interview with MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin ahead of his next fight. In the interview, the pair discussed Rockhold’s training camp, preparations and mindset going into his fight at UFC 278.
During the conversation, Rockhold talked about the fight bonuses that UFC fighters get after winning a ‘Performance of the Night or ‘Fight of the Night award. Rockhold criticized the fact that the UFC is still giving $50k as bonuses after all these years. Rockhold explained that the overall turnover of the company has increased significantly over the years but it has not been reflected in fighters’ bonuses. According to Rockhold, people should not celebrate the $50k bonus and should ask for much more than it.
“What the f*** are we doing here? F $50,000 bonuses are going on for like f** two decades like, what the f? The valuation of the company is growing up f billions of dollars and we are still stuck on 50,000 bonus checks. What the f* is this? People need to wake up….we have gone back…and they are just f us on pay. People need to shut the f* up, ‘Oh, bonus $50,000!’ It’s becoming a thing. Let’s get $200,000 — $200G’s, motherf***. That’s what you want to hear. The company needs to be reworked a little bit,” said Rockhold.
Fighter pay and fight bonuses have been under discussion for some time lately and fighters are now raising their voices on this matter. UFC and Dana White have also faced severe heat for increasing the fight purses of the fighters in the events. But there have been no developments regarding this issue.
