“Why you f***ing call me out?” – Marlon Vera accuses Cory Sandhagen of not backing up his words to fight him
Marlon Vera (L), Cory Sandhagen (R)
Marlon “Chito” Vera is on the rise in the bantamweight division. After a spectacular KO win over Dominick Cruz, the Ecuadorian seems to be a bonafide title challenger in the near future.
Vera entered the fight week in August, against Dominick Cruz with an air of confidence and genuine ambition to reach the top of the 135 pound mountain. Although it’s not guaranteed if he will directly take on Aljamain Sterling for the title, rest assured, he is at most one win away from a title shot.
That one fight could have come against talented bantamweight Cory Sandhagen. However, Vera alleges that Sandhagen turned down the fight. Speaking about it to Ariel Helwani, he said, “Why you f******* call me out? .. Don’t call another man out and then don’t be able to dance. Those are facts.”
Summing up, he said, “You just don’t call me out, if you don’t want to take.”
It seems like Marlon Vera is quite miffed about Sandhagen’s apparent refusal to fight him. The date outlined by Vera, for the potential showdown was November 5, on a Fight Night card.
Marlon Vera could rematch Sean O’Malley to determine the Number 1 contender
If you didn’t know, the UFC updated its ranking today, in the morning. In a bit of a shocker for everyone, Sean O’Malley jumped ten places to #1 in the bantamweight rankings, after his win over Petr Yan. The biggest loser in the new rankings was TJ Dillashaw, who slipped five places to No. 5.
Now that Sean O’Malley is right at the cusp of bantamweight title contendership, it feels like he needs just one more fight to prove his worthiness. And, this was confirmed by Dana White, who said that O’Malley might fight again before he gets the title shot. With O’Malley and Vera both looking for a potential match-up, they could be destined for a rematch.

Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera took on each other in 2020, where Vera TKO’d the American. However, is it not quite as simple as it seems. That night, the fight had hardly begun when “Chito’s” toe stung a nerve in “Sugar’s” leg, rendering his movement compromised, which eventually led to him falling on the canvas and laying there indefensible.
Now, O’Malley could have a shot at making things even. Marlon Vera, however, is no slouch – he is on a four fight win streak, having defeated the likes of Dominick Cruz and Rob Font. Any potential showdown between the stars will result in a landscape shift in the division, and huge numbers for the promotion.
