MMA Legend Anderson Silva once labeled ‘great fighter’ Demetrious Johnson as the GOAT

The GOAT debate in mixed martial arts is a never-ending conversation. With multiple names fitting the criteria to be called the greatest, fans and pundits often cannot collectively decide on a name. While fighters such as Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, and Khabib Nurmagomedov are labeled GOATs, another legendary name who fits the tag is Demetrious Johnson.
In a career spanning over 15 years, Johnson cemented his legacy by winning the UFC and ONE Championship flyweight titles. During his run with the UFC, ‘Mighty Mouse‘ also held prestigious records such as the most successful and consecutive title defenses. His magnificent performances in the octagon have led us to many believing he is the greatest fighter MMA has witnessed. One man who agrees with Johnson being the best in MMA is Anderson Silva.
Once during an interview with TMZ Sports, Silva, regarded as the GOAT by many, spoke highly of Demetrious Johnson. “Demetrious Johnson is the new champion. He’s the best one. I have my passion about my sport and I love when people are talking about this because Demetrious, people need to respect because he’s a great fighter. I think Demetrious [is the greatest of all time,” said the former UFC middleweight champion.
Despite being so great himself in MMA, it was heartwarming to see Silva heap praise on Demetrious Johnson. However, the Brazilian is not the only one to have acknowledged Johnson’s work. Previously, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan regarded Johnson as one of the best he has witnessed.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan is associated with the promotion since 1997. A martial artist himself, Rogan over the last 25 years, has covered MMA like no one else. The 55-year-old’s commentary in the UFC reflects his love and passion for the sport. While he might be a bit controversial in nature, Joe Rogan’s opinions on MMA are respected by MMA fans.
Along with being a famous MMA commentator, Rogan is also the host of the Joe Rogan Experience. During an episode of the podcast, Rogan’s guest exclaimed that Jon Jones is the best fighter ever. However, Rogan seemed to disagree with his opinion. Instead, the color commentator put forward Demetrious Johnson’s name.
Rogan said, “It’s hard to argue. It’s Mighty (Demetrious Johnson) Mouse. Mighty mouse just won One Championship rematch and got his title back. Mighty Mouse is a f**king man.”
Well, the fact that Rogan holds Demetrious Johnson in such high regard speaks volumes about the fighter. Currently enjoying his time in ONE Championship, ‘Might Mouse,’ is scheduled to take Adriano Moraes in a trilogy bout that will mark the promotion’s debut in the United States.
