Tom Aspinall won the interim heavyweight title this weekend in UFC 295. He knocked out Sergei Pavlovich in the very first round to claim the gold. After this win, many wondered about the future of Aspinall. By this time, he received a callout from the number one contender Ciryl Gane. However, Jailton Almeida intervened and challenged the Frenchman.
Recently, Jailton Almeida won his fight against Derrick Lewis. After the win, he called out Ciryl Gane for a fight. Now, Gane congratulated Tom Aspinall for winning the interim title and said that he would see him soon. However, Almeida interrupted the party on social media. This is what Almeida said:
I have bad news for you, my friend. You will have to face me before! @Mickmaynard2 @danawhite.Jailton Almeida via X
Jailton Almeida extended his win streak to seven in the UFC after his dominant win over Lewis. His callout to Gane was not a shocker as Gane was the fastest way to a title shot. Ciryl Gane had his chance at the heavyweight title against Jon Jones back in March 2023. But, he was demolished by Jones in the first round. This left Gane searching for a way back to the title.
Later, Ciryl Gane fought Sergey Spivak in September 2023. He won the fight via knockout in the second round. With wins on both sides, Gane vs. Almeida remains the fight to make. This would also serve as a title eliminator so that the winner may face the champion. But, it’s up to UFC to make the fight.
Jailton Almeida posted a tweet of Tom Aspinall’s opinion about Ciryl Gane’s callout.
After Ciryl Gane’s callout of the newly crowned interim champion, Jailton Almeida went after Gane stating that they had to fight. Gane called out Tom Aspinall who won the interim hevyweight title in UFC 295. Now, Aspinall in his post fight press conference addressed the call out from Gane. Almeida shared the clip of it on his X handle.
Tom Aspinall said that Ciryl Gane had to fight Jailton Almeida. He reasoned it with a recent altercation between the two. Aspinall before fighting for the interim title chased a fight with Gane.
However, Gane declined the fight despite being offered multiple times by the UFC. So, after becoming the champion Aspinall got back at Gane as the tables have turned. As such Almeida shared this clip of Aspinall in his X account and said the following:
The champ already said Bon Gamin. The time is now. Me and you. Almeida vs Gane and the winner go to the title! Lets do it! Can be in France, can be in Brazil, can be in Saudit Arabia, can be UFC 300, anyplace, any time. @ciryl_gane @Mickmaynard2 @danawhiteJailton Almeida (via X)
Jailton Almeida was ready to face Ciryl Gane anywhere, anytime. Further, he said that their fight would serve as a title eliminator bout. He was interested in making the fight in the historical UFC 300 card. In terms of the heavyweight division, this fight makes sense. If it gets booked, Almeida would be coming off a dominant win over Lewis while Gane with a spectacular win over Spivak.
