“MMA has won” – P4P King Alexander Volkanovski being backup for UFC 280 has called for Boxing vs MMA debates
Pound-for-pound bests in boxing and MMA respectively, Canelo Alvarez (L), and Alexander Volkanovski (R)
While Boxing continues to book champions against “weak” contenders, the UFC is flying out the best fighter currently, Alexander Volkanovski, to act as a backup fighter for a lightweight title fight held in Abu Dhabi.
The biggest criticism of the sport of boxing has been that the fans never get to see the best fight the best. Meanwhile, UFC 280‘s lightweight title fight having the best fighter currently in all of the mixed martial arts serving as a mere backup speaks volumes to this case. Alexander Volkanovski, the current featherweight champion, the pound-for-pound best in UFC has agreed to be a backup for the fight between Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev.
Oliveira and Makhachev will contest for the vacant lightweight belt in a fight that will be held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. To serve as backup for this fight, Volkanovski will fly all the way from Australia to the middle east. This news has taken over fight Twitter by storm and fans can’t help but look at MMA and Boxing without realizing that the latter has taken over as the best combat sport in the current world.
Though boxing has several superstars, fans have rarely witnessed those stars fight each other in their primes. However, in UFC and mixed martial arts in general, the best always end up fighting the best. The fact that a champion like Volkanovski is willing to give his all on the slight odds of being able to get into the octagon as a replacement speaks to how MMA has taken over as the new best combat sport.
Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski is currently looking at a potential chance to fight for the lightweight belt and fulfill his dream of being the “Champ Champ”. Fans on Twitter have reacted to this news and concluded that MMA, indeed has won the battle against boxing. Check out some of the reactions.

One of the main reasons MMA is clear of boxing is that the UFC's monopoly on top talent means the best fight the best constantly and you don't get bullshit Fury v Chisora situations. The lack of decent pay will lead to a competitor that destroys that eventually but for now WEEEEE
