Paulo Costa is one talented fighter and if he has peaked or is yet to show his best, only time will tell. But we sure know he is in his prime as an internet personality. In his last bout, Costa, who fights in the UFC’s middleweight division on paper, actually fought at light-heavyweight due to his weight cutting issues. Besides losing a hefty amount of fight purse, Costa also lost the fight. The fight was scheduled for a five-round main event against Marvin Vettori.
Now Costa is set to make his return against Luke Rockhold on the August 20, 2022 fight card, in the middleweight where he assures the UFC that he will make weight this time. Rockhold, the former Strikeforce and former UFC middleweight champion is returning to the Octagon after 3 years. Rockhold last fought at light-heavyweight where he was unfortunately knocked out in the second round of his 3-round contests against former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz. The stakes are high for both Costa and Rockhold coming into the fight.
Paulo Costa confident, will make weight with Paddy Pimblett and Charles Oliveira’s weight scale by his side
Quite recently, Chael Sonnen, MMA Legend and former UFC middleweight and light-heavyweight title challenger, went on his Youtube channel where he would talk about all things related to MMA. He also commented upon a possibility where Costa would miss weight and Sonnen is quite sure that the former would suffer from unprofessionalism followed by a backlash from people around because the latter think that as humans we get bigger and not the other way around.
Costa reacted to this by posting a screenshot of an article written about Sonnen’s comments, a picture of UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett who gets bulked up with binge eating when he is not fighting and a picture of #1 ranked UFC Lightweight Charles Oliveira. He uploaded the pictures on Twitter and wrote in the caption “Uncle Chael is everything ok. I got Charles scale and Pimblet as nutritionist [emojis of different desserts]”
What do make of Costa reacting hilariously to Sonnen’s criticism whilst mocking Pimblett’s habit and Oliveira’s situation during the weigh-ins of Oliveira’s last fight at UFC 274? On a serious note, do you think Costa will be sincere this time and make weight? Who do you think wins the fight between Costa and Rockhold? A win over Rockhold will put a huge feather on Costa’s hat as he will get his first win over a former world champion if that happens.
