Rafael Ddos Anjos is a future Hall of Famer, whose induction is awaiting him the day he retires. He is the embodiment of a fighter’s fighter – that is, he stays away from trouble and gets the job done without much of a fuss.

That being said, there is one fighter who was able to extract the nastiest out of dos Anjos. And no points for the correct guess – it indeed is an Irishman by the name of Conor McGregor. The two were supposed to fight at UFC 196 – however, an injury forced the Brazilian to pull out.

Post that chain of events, the two have continually traded barbs and never looked each other eye-to-eye. Now, seven years later, after his fight against Bryan Barberena, dos Anjos showed that he hasn’t forgotten what is in the past, and called McGregor out for a fight. Additionally, he went on Ariel Helwani’s show to talk about his rival’s injury, among other things.

He said, “That injury looks bad, but it’s not worse than an ACL re-injury. You recover from that way quicker than an ACL injury, because that’s bone to bone. You’ve just got to do some therapy, but ACL injury is way worse than that. So that’s not an excuse.” Continuing, he said, “He looks jacked. He looks big. If he wasn’t, he wouldn’t remove himself from the USADA pool.

Rafael dos Anjos showed his best self at last weekend’s UFC Orlando event where he choked out the ever-so-exciting Bryan Barberena in the second round of their fight. And, it wasn’t a hell-for-leather choke either – the Brazilian looked unperturbed the whole fight, only to pull the submission out past five minutes on the clock.

That being said, it looks like he has set his aims on McGregor now – “I’ll fight him now. Just say OK, come to Las Vegas”, he said. Continuing, he said, “When I’m putting myself in his shoes, who [is he] going to fight? Is he going to fight Poirier again for the fourth time? He’s going to fight Michael Chandler, who’s not even in the division he wants to fight?

It seems like Rafael dos Anjos is hitting the correct notes going into what could turn out to be a grudge match and a massive payday for the Brazilian. However, there are a lot of bolts and nuts that need to be put in the right place for this fight to take place. If they do fall into place, expect a grudge match between two former lightweight champions, which will be for the ages.
