Quinton Jackson is a former UFC light heavyweight champion. He revealed the exact turning moment in his relationship with UFC CEO Dana White. The information was revealed on an episode of Jackson’s JAXXON PODCAST. He highlighted his beef with White and the promotion’s treatment of its fighters.
Jackson’s pitch about making two of the biggest UFC stars fight didn’t sit well with White. Furthermore, the emotional exchange revolved around Jackson’s criticism of certain athletes, most notably Ben Askren. He felt he did not contribute positively to the sport of MMA. Quinton Jackson voiced his displeasure with fighters such as Askren, saying:
Fighters, the ones that are fighting hard, selling tickets, putting on exciting fights. Like the Ben Askrens, whatever the f*** his name is, kick his a** out. Kick his a** out of MMA. F*** him….My job was just to entertain people. That's what I like. Win or lose, I ain't give a f***. I like entertaining. So I told him, let the logos (top selling fighters) fight each other. Let's see how many fans sit down and watch that sh*t. Dana White got mad and that's when our relationship went south.Quinton Jackson via the JAXXON podcast
Despite his incredible record in the sport, which includes his reign as UFC light heavyweight champion, Jackson has yet to be admitted into the UFC Hall of Fame. The poor relationship with the promotion may have caused this omission.
The connection between athletes and promoters remains a subtle and sensitive dynamic in the world of MMA. Quinton Jackson’s admission sheds light on the difficulties that fighters confront when reconciling their love of the sport with their expectations from the company.
Quinton Jackson reveals the time Dana White betrayed him
Quinton Jackson recently said that he felt betrayed by UFC CEO Dana White, revealing light on a long-standing schism. The conflict stems from an event that occurred following Jackson’s defeat to Ryan Bader at UFC 144 in February 2012.
Jackson discussed reaching out to Dana White before the UFC 144 bout, admitting that he had a partial tear in his meniscus. He revealed this on a recent episode of the Jaxxon Podcast. Despite his injuries, Quinton Jackson declared his desire to fight, particularly in Japan, where he enjoyed competing. After losing by decision, Jackson said that Dana White made disparaging remarks about him during the post-fight news conference. This is what Jackson said:
So when I went there and I fought, and I lost by decision, the first thing Dana did in the press conference is, like, 'I don’t know what’s going on with Rampage. I don’t think he has it. I don’t think he wants it anymore.' I was like 'Man!' ... After all that sh*t Dana did to me, when he did that sh*t, that’s when I got kind of pi*sed at him. I lost my love for fighting right there.Quinton Jackson via the JAXXON Podcast
The disappointment caused by White’s statements was an important event for Quinton Jackson, resulting in an unstable relationship with the UFC CEO. Despite the supposed treachery, Jackson remained ready to return to the UFC for the love of fighting at the time.
