Ronda Rousey is one of the most recognized names in UFC history. She made way for the growth of women’s MMA and shone a spotlight on it. Rousey recently made a startling admission about her health leading into the UFC 193 fight in 2015 against Holly Holm.

Rousey revealed in a recent interview that she dealt with a concussion before the bout. She blamed the loss to Holly Holm on this. Rousey went on to explain that the cumulative effect of past head injuries had taken a toll on her cognitive abilities.

I literally came into that fight concussed from slipping down some stairs already after all these years of concussions. I had an absolutely terrible weight cut, which means you have less fluid in your brain to protect it. I was out on my feet for the entire fight. I was trying to make it look like I wasn’t hurt, but I wasn’t there cognitively. Just from that one fight, everybody felt like, ‘Oh she’s a fraud.’

Rousey attributed her struggles during the fight to her inability to think clearly and judge distances accurately. Despite her impressive accomplishments, Rousey felt her legacy was unfairly tarnished after the loss to Holm. Over the years, fans believe Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko stand above Rousey in the women’s GOAT debate. Nevertheless, she will remain a top-five or top-ten fighter forever.
