O’Malley’s next fight will be a rematch with Marlon Vera at UFC 299. Talking about his upcoming fight with Helen Yee, Sean O’Malley said:
I’m honestly surprised that it’s happening in a sense. I didn’t think that he would get to the title shot, and did he really deserve it after his performance over Pedro? I don’t know, but I thought, you know what? It’s time that I take him out. So, here we are and it’s very exciting.Sean O’Malley via Helen Yee Sports
Marlon “Chito” Vera defeated Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision in their bantamweight showdown at UFC 292. The fight went the full distance and was a back-and-forth exchange. However, Vera’s strikes got him through. Meanwhile, that same night, Sean O’Malley won the UFC bantamweight title by defeating Aljamain Sterling with a second-round technical knockout (TKO). The fight headlined the main event of the evening. O’Malley knocked down former champion, Aljamain Sterling, 51 seconds into the second round.
Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera first fought at UFC 252 back in August 2020. Vera won by first-round TKO, knocking O’Malley out with a leg kick that hit his peroneal nerve. O’Malley never mentally accepted it as a loss. Now they will fight it out in a highly anticipated rematch at the Kaseya Center this March in Miami.
