Retired UFC Superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov once shared with Ariel Helwani that he wants his wife and children to have a private life outside of any media attention. Khabib is taking time away from coaching to spend more time with family. Khabib is someone who values the importance of family in life.
Khabib Nurmagomedov wanted to keep his wife and children away from media attention because of the dark side of media. He didn’t want the media to get involved in his private life, so he has never posted pictures of his family online. Khabib retired after defeating Justin Gaethje back in 2020. His mother wanted him to retire shortly after his father’s untimely death, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, and Khabib fulfilled her wish. Here is what Khabib had to say: “I want to protect my family from media, from other like, you know, sometimes media is good, but sometimes media is crazy.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov had a special relationship with his father, and he was responsible for ‘The Eagle’ becoming one of the best fighters in the world. Abdulmanap is also the pioneer of Dagestani fighters finding success in combat sports. Khabib followed in his father’s footsteps as a coach as well. He coached Islam Makachev, and together they won the UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 280.
Henry Cejudo is not surprised about Khabib retiring from coaching
In May, Henry Cejudo will make his much-anticipated return to fight Aljamain Sterling for the UFC Bantamweight Championship. Similar to Khabib, Cejudo has also taken up gigs as a coach. He has been coaching Jon Jones (not entirely) for his return as a heavyweight. On his Youtube Channel, he revealed not being surprised by Khabib retiring as a coach.
Cejudo understands that training camps and cornering his fighters take much time away from family. Cejudo, a father to a little girl, now understands the need to be with her, and that is also why he is not surprised about Khabib retiring from coaching.
Cejudo, who last fought Dominic Cruz back in 2020 at UFC 249, will return after a hiatus of three years. Cejudo is the only athlete to win an Olympic Gold medal and two division titles in the UFC. He will look to dethrone Aljamain Sterling and once again reign supreme over the Bantamweights.
