“This is a different league” – Tai Tuivasa skeptical of “GOAT” Jon Jones’ success in the heavyweight division

Tai Tuivasa and Jon Jones

Jon Jones might go down as the greatest of all time when everything is said and done, and heavyweight Tai Tuivasa is on board with that. However, “Bam Bam” is not entirely sure how successful the “GOAT” can be in the heavyweight division.

Jon Jones last fought in the octagon in 2020. The fighter decided to vacate the light heavyweight division and move up a weight class to the “big boys” league. The fighter is yet to officially make his heavyweight debut but has been bulking in the last two years and has shown great progress. “Bones” is finally nearing a debut in the heavyweight division against Stipe Miocic according to several reports and a lot is expected of the former light heavyweight champ.

Tai Tuivasa, a top-ranked heavyweight, who is a fan of the fighter doesn’t think Jones will have an easy ride as a heavyweight as many seem to believe. Tuivasa is more than happy to give Jones a taste of the “heavyweight” medicine in a future fight against the former champ himself.

Tai Tuivasa from time to time has said that Jones is the greatest fighter to ever grace the octagon, despite being a “d**khead”. Tuivasa is not one to shy away from speaking what he believes even if it is contrary to popular opinion. Many fans believe Jones will walk the park in the heavyweight division given his success in the past. Tuivasa begs to differ.

“I’ve said it before, Jon Jones is a GOAT, one of the greatest to ever fight. We all know this. But as a heavyweight, no one really knows. I’m sure that he’s still Jon jones. His skill and his talent, he’s great. But, heavyweight is a different kind of league. We don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see,” said Tuivasa at the UFC Paris pre-fight press conference.

Tai is now scheduled to take on the French heavyweight elite, Ciryl Gane in a five-round main event fight at UFC Paris. This is undoubtedly Tai’s biggest career fight. A win against Gane could mean the Aussie gets a potential title shot and maybe he meets Jones down the line. Who knows? Tai vs Jones surely does sound like an entertaining matchup.
