Tai Tuivasa thinks Jon Jones is the greatest fighter ever despite him being a “D***head”

Tai Tuivasa thinks Jon Jones is the greatest fighter ever despite him being a “D***head”

Tuivasa has said he doesn't mind adding Jon Jones to his resume at heavyweight

Tai Tuivasa thinks very highly of Jon Jones but that is only as long as he’s locked in the cage. At a recent appearance on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Tai revealed how he truly felt about the former Light Heavyweight champion and you won’t be disappointed by his response.

Tai has long been one of the funniest fighters to step in to the UFC Octagon and his upbeat welcoming personality has only made him an even bigger fan favorite. This is mostly because what you see on the surface is often what you get inside with Tai. Point in fact, Tai is one of the most grounded fighters in the UFC despite being on an incredibly successful run.

Jones in stark contrast, is anything but. The fighter has long been accused of having a fake persona once the cameras are rolling, most notably seen during the ESPN hot mic incident with DC, where he threatens to kill DC once he thinks the cameras are switched off. Moreover, his overtly Christian image, complete with occasional Bible quotes on Twitter and a complete tattoo of a Bible verse is completely dismantled by the things he’s been caught up with outside the Octagon.

Tai Tuivasa welcomes a fight with Jon Jones at Heavyweight

Most recently Tai gained a KO victory over Derrick Lewis in Houston

Tai is aware of this fact. He may even say he has first-hand experience of dealing with the dual personality of Jones as he was texted by the former Champ directly on his Instagram. The two had a squabble over beer and who would win in a fight at heavyweight, that ultimately led to Jones blocking the Aussie.

However, considering Jones wants to cement his legacy at heavyweight and the fact that Tai is on a lucrative 5 fight win streak doesn’t put this fight out of the realm of possibility. “I’ve said it many times before and I stand by what I said, I think Jon Jones is the best fighter to ever fight,” said Tuivasa about the legacy of Jones inside the cage.

He further explained his stance while clarifying that in no way does he feel Jones is a good human being saying, “But is he a d***head? Yes, I think he’s a d***head. And will I fight him? Yes. Will he fight me? I think he would because he’s fought, everyone and anyone. He’s one of the greatest to do it, but I’d love to fight him. Not for anything else, just for the same reason, I like to fight all these people who have made names.”

Tuivasa will face off against the former interim Champion, Cyril Gane in Paris. A win over Gane will undoubtedly put Tuivasa among the most buzzing names in a title picture. A bout between Jones and Tuivasa may not be such a far-fetched prospect by the end of this week.
