“That is not a bad argument”- Chael Sonnen supports Francis Ngannou’s unacceptance of the Interim Heavyweight title

Francis Ngannou is all set to defend his heavyweight title for the first time since winning it from Stipe Miocic last year. Ngannou’s opponent will be his old roommate and current rival, Ciryl Gane and the fight will take place at UFC 270 on January 22 inside the Honda Center.
The bad blood between these two fighters has increased the hype behind this match-up to a great extent. For many MMA fans, this is one of the biggest heavyweight title bouts in the history of UFC.
Ahead of UFC 270, Ngannou has refused to accept this fight as a title unification bout as he believes that there is only one title and this is the undisputed one. According to the fighter, the interim title does have any significance in the promotion and he doesn’t care about its presence. ” There is no unification. I recognize only one title, I do not legitimize the interim title at all,” said Ngannou while recently talking to UFC interviewer Megan Olivi.
Chael Sonnen on the remarks made by the Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou

Sonnen made a YouTube video on his channel on this topic and shared his overall opinion with his viewers. The former UFC superstar finds the point made by Ngannou very valid and believes that it has some meaning to it. “It’s not a bad argument..he makes a fair point,” said Sonnen. Sonnen backed Ngannou’s point that if only his belt is on the line then the Interim is not a real belt.
Sonnen explained that in this fight only one belt is on the line and that is the undisputed one, the one which Ngannou has. On the other hand, Gane has nothing to lose and his belt, the Interim title, doesn’t have the risk to go off. “It can’t be Interim vs undisputed if only one belt goes off,” said Sonnen, supporting the statement made by Ngannou. Sonnen revealed that if the Interim heavyweight belt actually means anything to the fighter he should defend the thing.
