On Tuesday, Khamzat Chimaev was the subject of conversation as reports suggested the fighter’s passport had been seized in Russia. This news sent shockwaves across the MMA world.

A report by Brazilian outlet Combate mentioned that Chimaev’s passport was seized by authorities in St. Petersburg, while the fighter was on his way to Chechnya to meet his family. It further added that the UFC fighter’s team was working to get Chimaev back to Sweden, where the fighter is a neutralised citizen.

While the report worried Khamzat Chimaev’s fans, his manager denied any happening of the incident. As per a tweet by MMA journalist Brett Okamoto, Chimaev’s manager said there was no problem in the fighter’s arrangements. In his tweet, Okamoto wrote, “I just spoke to Khamzat Chimaev’s (@KChimaev) manager Majdi Shammas, who told me reports of Khamzat being stuck in Russia with a revoked passport are not true. Khamzat is in Russia, but there are ‘no problems’ with any travel restrictions according to Shammas.”

This tweet by the journalist helped calm the worried Chimaev fans. While many wished to get further clarification on the incident, ‘Borz’ himself spoke to Brett Okamoto and gave his fans an update.

The news of Khamzat Chimaev’s passport being seized took the internet by storm. Since the report got leaked, MMA fans from around the world had different reactions to it. While Chimaev’s manager denied the incident, the fighter himself had a word with veteran reporter Brett Okamoto.

As per Okamoto, he spoke to Chimaev, and the latter explained the reason behind his visit to Russia. During their conversation, ‘Borz’ also detailed he would soon be back in Sweden.

In a tweet, Okamoto wrote, “Khamzat Chimaev (@KChimaev) tells me he is visiting family in Russia and will return to Sweden in two weeks. “Start training camp, fight somebody, find somebody, smash somebody, make money.”

Despite all the rumours circulating, Chimaev from his statements seems focused on his goal.
