Chael Sonnen is one of the greatest trash talkers to grace the sport of MMA. His wrestling heel-inspired “Bad Guy” persona sent his career trajectory into the stratosphere as the fans ate up every word he said.

After his victory over Michael Bisping, Joe Rogan approached Chael Sonnen in the octagon for a post-fight interview. And the Bad Guy ended up delivering one of the greatest ever post-fight interviews. Joe asked Chael whether Bisping surprised him during their fight.

However, the Bad Guy was in no mood to be answering questions. He began, “Tonight is not for questions for me. This is your night brother. I wanna know how you feel being inches away from greatness. I want you to tell everybody. Are you not mesmerized? Do you not have chills going up your spine?”

“For the first time on Fox, for you to be here. In Chael’s octagon, on Chael’s channel, holding Chael’s microphone; interviewing Chael,” Sonnen concluded. The former UFC and Bellator star then ended his monologue by saying, “Remember this, when you’re the greatest fighter in the world today, they got a name for ya. They don’t call you a great fighter, they call you Chael Sonnen. Beat me, if you can.”

All the while Joe Rogan just stood there, barely able to get a word in. And who can blame him for that when he stands next to the one and only, “undefeated and undisputed,” Chael P. Sonnen? And the former interim champion will certainly go down as having laid the blueprint for over-the-top trash talkers in MMA to follow.

Chael Sonnen has a history of feuds against Brazilian fighters. His rivalry with the “Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva is legendary. Their verbal spats were only exceeded by their brawl during the 3rd iteration of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil. And his comments about the nation of Brazil certainly did not help things either.

However, one of his most famous quotes comes from an interview he did with Ariel Helwani. In it, the American went after the legendary Nogueira brothers. “I was in Las Vegas when the Nogueira brothers first touched down in America. There was a bus that pulled up to a red light. And little Nog tried to feed it a carrot, while Big Nog tried to pet. This really happened. He tried to feed a bus a carrot.” said Sonnen.

And over the years, the Bad Guy has stuck by his words. Anytime he has been asked about this incident, he has reiterated the notion that this sequence of events really did happen. Despite this amazing bit of trash talk from Sonnen, no fight against either of the Nogueira brothers was ever an option. But Chael would end up getting his comeuppance from a Brazilian in the form of his losses to the legendary striker, Anderson Silva.
