Belal Muhammad, who was heavily rallied for the next title shot has now turned heel in the eyes of fans following his recently deleted tweet. ‘Remember The Name’ made a questionable tweet towards Colby Covington who is most likely the next title contender.
MMA fans have been in a frenzy ever since UFC boss Dana White announced Colby Covington would be next in line for another title shot. Covington, who has fought for the belt three times in his last five fights is looking at yet another title shot. Belal Muhammad, who is on an incredible 9-fight win streak is upset about the snub.
Following the announcement, Muhammad has been expressing his dissent toward White’s decision. In a deleted tweet responding to a quote from the champion Leon Edwards, Muhammad claimed the reason behind Covington’s title shot is because ‘he’s white’.
Despite deleting the tweet, fans have quickly latched on to this tweet and have been dragging the fighter on social media. The Palestinian welterweight has now also received a reply from Colby Covington himself.
Belal just screwed himself. This is a terrible tweet. Like awful. Could you imagine if a white guy tweeted something like this about any other race??? This will not help your case to get a title shot. He’s definitely going to have to fight Shavkat now. He did himself no favors. pic.twitter.com/i9LdQmW4Qb

The welterweight division’s ‘Chaos’ didn’t take too long to respond. In a recent interview with James Lynch, Covington attacked Muhammad for his ‘racist’ tweets. “I’m not going to pick some kid up that is on the bottom of the prelims. You got to earn your way up here and that guy is racist, man,” said Covington.
“He was saying the only reason that happened is because I’m white. How is that not racist? That is disgusting,” said Covington. The fighter also went in on Muhammad and demands the Palestinian be kicked out of the UFC roster.
Covington is no stranger to controversies surrounding race, given his past rants during his rivalry against Tyron Woodley and Kamaru Usman. Even the champion Leon Edwards is puzzled as to why Covington has been awarded the title shot.
