Conor McGregor is probably the most high profile superstar that has ever been on the UFC roster – for the first time in about eight years, he has fallen out of all rankings. While that may be hard his fans fans to digest, it also gives an opportunity to anticipate a sweet comeback.
One of the biggest controversies surrounding McGregor’s time off from the sport, after his shin snapped in half against Dustin Poirier, came at the behest of his abstention from USADA drug testing. Basically, every fighter must get tested regularly in order to maintain a level of fairness in the sport.
That being said, “The Notorious” has practically been absent from the pool for a year now. While there are many theories to his absence, the one with the most credence is the idea of him using supplements to help his leg fully heal. Additionally, in the midst of shooting the movie, “Road House”, it feels like drug testing would have just been an additional impediment to a clear head.
Now, recently retired UFC fighter TJ Dillashaw has rushed to the defense of McGregor, because of the widespread criticism he has received. He said, “We’re tested 365 days a year. You don’t get time to heal. You don’t get these down times. The guy is in movies, he’s doing all this sh*t, his leg is broken in half, and even if he were to take steroids to recover himself, he can’t compete with it in his system.”
He continued, “All he’s doing is healing… He’s not doing anything wrong… I mean, you break your leg like that, you might never come back.”
Fans lambast TJ Dillashaw for his defence of Conor McGregor’s withdrawal from USADA’s testing pool
Despite what may seem like true sportsmanship – it is interesting to note that Conor McGregor and TJ Dillashaw do not have a good record with each other; fans rushed to express their condemnation of what Dillashaw said. The reason for it is that Dillashaw himself was caught doping, for which he served a suspension. Find the best reactions below.
As can be seen, fans weren’t too happy with what they thought was a contradictory statement from the former bantamweight champion. After all, the topic becomes really sensitive when one talks about steroidal infusion in the UFC. Whatever the case, as hinted by Dana White, Conor McGregor might make his return against Michael Chandler, so fans can expect him to enter the pool soon.
