The interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall didn’t mince words when voicing his displeasure about the heavyweight division. Dana White’s decision to hold on for Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic has not sat well with Aspinall. Aspinall, noted for his open and forthright demeanor, offered his thoughts during a podcast.

In the True Geordie podcast, Aspinall vented his frustrations about Dana White and UFC matchmaking. He talked about how White’s insistence on Jones vs. Miocic has halted the heavyweight division. This is what he had to say:

There are 2 champions now. This is not right mate. My next fight has to be for the undisputed title…Yeah let him (Jones) have his legacy fight, but why for the undisputed title? Why you making the rest of us wait?

The problem began when Jon Jones, the reigning heavyweight champion, sustained an injury requiring surgery. This could potentially put him out until mid-2024. Despite Jones’ extended absence, the UFC chose not to strip him of his championship, which sparked criticism. As a result, an interim championship bout was scheduled for UFC 295, with Tom Aspinall filling in for Sergei Pavlovich on short notice.

He expressed his desire to fight any top-tier opponent and did not rule out the possibility of facing Jones in the future.
