Tom Aspinall takes on Sergei Pavlovich for the interim heavyweight championship this weekend. In the pre-fight press conference, Aspinall admitted that he wouldn’t win against Pavlovich in a stand-and-bang situation. However, the way he said it caught the eyes of the MMA world.
The British fighter, who has a professional MMA record of 17 wins, and 4 losses, has a funny nature and jokingly teased his opponent Sergei Pavlovich. Tom Aspinall said that his advantage was that Pavlovich wouldn’t have found a training partner that replicated him. Later, he acknowledged Pavlovich’s strength and said that he wouldn’t fight him in the center of the cage, which often meant fighters trading punches. The way he said that was funny. Tom Aspinall is coming off a spectacular TKO win over Marcin Tybura in the very first round. On the other hand, Sergei Pavlovich is on a six-fight win streak with all the wins coming as a first-round knockout. Originally, Jon Jones was defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic. But it got canceled as Jones got injured two weeks prior.
Now, The young heavyweights are locked in for the electric showdown this weekend. This fight is the co-main event of UFC 295. As such, people are looking forward to it as this fight would determine the course of the UFC heavyweight division. The winner would have a strong claim to fight the legend Jon Jones to unify the heavyweight titles.
Tom Aspinall shared his thoughts on taking this fight on short notice
The fight between Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich came to fruition because of the cancelation of the most anticipated fight Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic. Now, in the press conference, Aspinall shared his thoughts about taking this fight on short notice, which was called a ‘bold move’ by Tyson Fury. It is to be noted that Pavlovich was the backup fighter for the originally scheduled Jones-Stipe fight.

Tom Aspinall said that he wouldn’t have signed the contract to fight Pavlovich if he didn’t think that he could win the fight. But, in contrast, he also stated that it would’ve been better if he had more time to prepare. Further, he said that it only takes one shot to win the fight at heavyweight and that wouldn’t have happened had he not signed to fight. Here is what he said:
“I’m not the type of guy who’s going to fly across the world, sign the contract and show up if I don’t think I’m going that. That’s just not in my nature. I would’ve definitely liked more time to prepare obviously. But, I know one thing. I’m not going to fu****g win the fight sat out on the couch watching TV watching it”

The British fighter looked confident in his approach to the fight against one of the most dangerous fighters in the heavyweight division. Sergei Pavlovich is dangerous because of his one-shot knockout power. As such, Tom Aspinall acknowledges it and would probably play to his strengths and try to exploit the Russian’s weakness.
