The interim titleholder Tom Aspinall is seemingly out of luck when it comes to Jon Jones. The undisputed UFC 265lbs champion Jones had to withdraw from the UFC 295 card. Incurring a pectoral injury, Jones put the division on hold, undergoing a subsequent elbow surgery, recently. The matter has gained much negative traction amongst fans; especially so with the 14-3 Briton. Heavyweight G.O.A.T Jones has time and again snubbed Aspinall’s chances of title unification. Now, the latter had spoken out more candidly than ever on it.
Typically, the interim title gold is all that is necessary to guarantee and thrust forward a unification bout. Without Jones, Aspinall’s interim gold is nothing but a moot promotional tool. The champion and even the likes of veteran commentators Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen have spoken on this. But with the champion inactive yet unwilling, here’s what Aspinall had to say, speaking with OLBG.com:
It’s quite simple, I want to fight Jones but Jones wants to fight Miocic and that’s it...Jones is great at deflecting the truth; he’s like a politician.Tom Aspinall

Jones, the 27-1-0 out of Jackson’s MMA Acoma Gym is often considered to have some of the top trash-talk banters in the promotion. But on this occasion, he went on a long Twitter rant about Aspinall’s unproven heavyweight legacy. Snubbed out of a title contention shot repeatedly, the Englishman thinks that Jones is paving the way for the easier fight for more money.
With the promotion set on booking the legacy fight between Jones and Stipe Miocic, that might just be true. Miocic won a unanimous decision over Cormier and then faced a 2nd-round TKO last, in March 2021. Gunning for an undisputed title showdown, Aspinall had even offered to fight the washed-up Miocic, instead of waiting for Jones. But there’s seemingly more bad news on that front.
Tom Aspinall says Stipe Miocic turned down UFC 300 square off
After his highlight victory with a 69-second KO at UFC 295, Tom Aspinall won the interim heavyweight crown. Conversely, now though, the fighter has settled on the thought that he is the odd man out. With no unification title bout in sight, he has even pledged to stop ‘crying’ about such a bout, for a legacy showdown.

Considering that his interim gold would be moot on Jon Jones returning as the true ‘active’ champion, he has tried to bait him in. With Jones dismissing him out of hand, he has even opted to hash it out with Stipe Miocic, Jones’ original rival on the card for UFC 295.
Concurrently, check out what the fighter had to say, taking to his X account:
For a multitude of times, the fighter has voiced his angst over the promotion’s matchmaking and stalling the heavyweight division for a supposed title fight. But this time around he said ‘no more’.
Aspinall’s latest string of tweets comes in light of a back-and-forth with Jones, who slammed the fighter for posting troll TikTok reels, coinciding with his latest surgery. Following that, he had downplayed Asinall’s resume for such a legacy face-off.
Now, the Briton’s future is uncertain as of yet. Only time will tell what becomes of his title aspirations and long-running legacy.
