“Not selling myself for views and money,” Tom Aspinall sharply fires back at Chael Sonnen for latter’s criticism of Aspinall’s skills on the mic

“Not selling myself for views and money,” Tom Aspinall sharply fires back at Chael Sonnen for latter’s criticism of Aspinall’s skills on the mic

Tom Aspinall- Chael Sonnen

Seems like UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall is fine with just fighting and not much talking and therefore he doesn’t need anyone to change his persona otherwise, especially Chael Sonnen as it seems from Aspinall’s point of view. Aspinall is on an undefeated UFC tenure with his last fight being the biggest victory of his career when he defeated former Bellator MMA heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov via submission in the opening round.

Aspinall so far has won over Volkov, former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, Sergey Spivak, Jake Collier and Alan Baudot. Aspinall is now heading to fight #4 ranked heavyweight Curtis Blaydes in July in another UFC London fight card at O2 Arena, Greater London, England. Aspinall is a submission specialist with extremely fast movement and hands for boxing as well. His father, an owner of a BJJ academy, was one of the first black belts in BJJ-Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu- from England.

Not so long ago, Chael Sonnen recently posted a video on his Youtube channel heavily criticizing Tom Aspinall for his capacity to promote himself. Initially, Sonnen said that “He comes out and does an interview — I can’t remember what was said, I was disgusted, I ended up shutting the page — talking about, ‘Who wouldn’t want to see Ngannou box? Ngannou’s just a great boxer,’ He went on from there, put some other people over… [h/t MMA Fighting]

He’s a legitimate fan. I do understand that in all fairness and he does come off as a very sweet guy, that is true. Tom actually is coming off like a really nice guy, I must tell the other side of the coin… [But] I can’t put him back in the main event. I can’t put him in a title shot. I can’t put him in anything that he says he doesn’t belong in. Nobody can,” continued Sonnen. [h/t MMA Fighting]

Aspinall took a screenshot of the Youtube page of Sonnen’s video, uploaded it on his Instagram story and wrote the caption “I’m more than happy being myself thanks and not selling myself out and acting like a [clown] for views and money I am not a WWE entertainer I’m one of the greatest heavyweights to walk on this [Earth] and it will be shown in my body of work from my UFC debut until I retire in 10 years. I don’t need to talk s***. Happy to be myself.”

What do you make of Aspinall’s reaction to his criticism by Sonnen? Who do you think makes more sense out of the two? Is it important to compromise with your authentic self to sell a fight in the fight business? Or does nothing matters more than the reality of the person? Are you in for a Tom Aspinall fight any day merely through his body of work?
