In a recent press conference, Tony Ferguson made waves with some noteworthy announcements. These included the revelation that he was considered for coaching in the previous season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ ( TUF ). The opportunity was alongside the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov and Ferguson revealed it at the UFC 291 press conference.
When asked about his prediction for the outcome of the McGregor vs. Chandler fight, Ferguson responded promptly, “I hope they knock each other the f**k out“. However, what seemed to weigh heavily on Ferguson’s mind was the missed opportunity to coach on The Ultimate Fighter opposite Khabib. Expressing his frustration, Ferguson remarked, “I was supposed to coach on the Ultimate Fighter against ‘Khabieber’“. “He’s off on his world tour still and I guess whatever he had happening he didn’t have enough balls to go and coach his cousin,” he said.
Ferguson was clearly excited at the prospect of competing against Nurmagomedov as a coach on TUF. He reminisced about the time when he had meetings with UFC President Dana White in November to discuss the opportunity. Unfortunately, Nurmagomedov’s retirement after his fight against Justin Gaethje put a wrench in the coaching plan. Ferguson was quick to voice his displeasure. He said, “I did everything I needed to do in order to get Khabib back, but he ran away like a p***y, so… f**k you Khabib“.
Ferguson has been on a dry spell lately ever since UFC 249. Despite facing five consecutive losses, Tony is determined to make a comeback at UFC 291. He is set to face Bobby Green in the Octagon in Poirier vs Gaethje 2 undercard.
Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s rivalry in the UFC
Fans are highly excited to see Tony Ferguson make a turn-around at UFC 291. Both Ferguson and Khabib are MMA veterans and big stars of the sport. Khabib obviously left the promotion undefeated and as the undisputed UFC lightweight champion.
The two were scheduled for a fight many times. However, fate had a different plan each time. As a result of a rib injury, Khabib withdrew from the fight that was scheduled for 2015. The following year, Ferguson was made to leave because he did not receive a medical clearance. This happened a total of five times.
Tony Ferguson‘s recent press conference showcased his disappointment over missing the chance to coach against Khabib Nurmagomedov on The Ultimate Fighter. The fiery jab of words between the two fighters has heightened anticipation for a potential future showdown in the octagon. As fans eagerly await further developments, Ferguson’s resolve to bounce back at UFC 291 shines through. The anticipated build-up makes his upcoming fight all the more compelling.
