Dan Hooker recently asserted that he believes Israel Adesanya would face Jon Jones at heavyweight if he defeats Jamahal Hill for the light heavyweight championship. “Izzy beats Hill for the LHW strap I guarantee he’d fight Jon at HW ,” he tweeted. Adesanya and Hooker have spent several years as teammates as well as training partners at City Kickboxing and maintained their friendship throughout their UFC career.

Israel Adesanya just took out Alex Pereira at UFC 287 to reclaim his title as the UFC Middleweight Champion. This was the duo’s fourth encounter. Having lost three consecutive fights against Pereira, this was a huge moment for Israel Adesanya.

After the victory, comes defending the title. Israel Adesanya has fought ten title fights in four years. But who does he defend the title against? Fights like a Pereira trilogy, Adesanya vs Robert Whittaker / Khamzat Chimaev, or the young African prospect Dricus du Plessis whom Adesanya mentioned right after his win at the post-fight press conference may come to mind.

But then again, Pereira is reportedly set to move up the weight class so there goes the trilogy for now. Robert Whittaker revealed that he wasn’t counting on Adesanya’s win and now would have to go through a bunch of fights before getting another title fight against his long-time foe.

Khamzat vs Israel would mean Khamzat moving up a weight class while Adesanya clearly mentioned Dricus du Plessis needs to get some fights and experience under his belt before they face each other in the octagon. Thus comes the speculations of Adesanya moving up the weight class and fighting in the light heavyweight division and then potentially against long-time rival Jon Jones.

Dan Hooker‘s tweet about Israel Adesanya vs Jon Jones received a lot of criticism from fans. “Lol you trying to get him killed? Jon would destroy Izzy bad. Let him stay at mw a rule there,” one commented.

But can Israel Adesanya truly beat Jon Jones? The match would surely be a ginormous hit as agreed by Ariel Helwani and Chael Sonnen. But fans do not seem to agree. “C’mon guys… if Jan overpowered him at 205, Jon Jones would eat him alive. This would not even be sanctioned”, one guy wrote.

At UFC 259, Israel Adesanya took on Jan Blachowicz in an effort to become a double champion. He was unable to do so, however, as Blachowicz triumphed against Adesanya by a unanimous decision to retain his light heavyweight title. “But 205 [lbs], that’s down the line...” Adesanya said that about a year ago. Maybe we’ll see ”The Last Stylebender” run through the divisions to finally go head-to-head against Jon Jones in a UFC super fight.
