After over three years away from the octagon, Kron Gracie will make his return at UFC 288 for the featherweight contest. Gracie has some thoughts regarding how the UFC could make things more interesting.

His last fight in the UFC ended in favor of opponent Cub Swanson via unanimous decision. Were there more time, Gracie could have maybe turned the fight around. Thus he shares his idea of revisiting the rounds module of the UFC.

“What I really think MMA needs is, instead of [more] rounds, is fifteen or twenty-minute rounds,” Gracie said. “I think that’s something that would change the result and bring more finishes on the feet and on the ground because when you have rounds, you have a break and time to think, your coach brings you water, and that changes the fight. It’s no longer a fight between you and the guy.” He feels that fighters would have more time to fight and more chances to win under such conditions.

What Kron Gracie is suggesting here isn’t new and has been tried before. The UFC and previous MMA fights used to not operate under a time clause but Gracie feels the sport wasn’t ready for it during those times. “The sport definitely wasn’t ready for that in the beginning,” he said. “But I think the sport is way smarter now. Fans are way smarter.” Although an exciting suggestion, with all the new rules concerning fighter safety being added each year, it is highly unlike the UFC would go back to the crude old days.

Kron Gracie’s last opponent in the UFC octagon was Cub Swanson. He is an American MMA artist who fights in the bantamweight division and is a veteran of the sport with 28 wins and 13 losses.

Swanson is a fan favorite and the UFC recently inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Swanson revealed in an interview with Ariel Helwani that he wants to leave the sport on his own terms.“I’m definitely feeling it’s the last chapter of my career,” he said. “I really want to pick my next few fights and well and make sure that I end it on a good note.”
