Former UFC middleweight champion believes Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s legacy as the greatest lightweight of all time is at risk if Charles Oliveira manages to beat Islam Makhachev at UFC 280.
The upcoming pay-per-view event UFC 280 will answer a lot of questions. The headliner, Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev is more than just a vacant lightweight title fight. According to many fans and experts, that lightweight fight is a fight where Khabib Nurmagomedov could be passed by the Brazilian superstar, Charles Oliveira as the greatest lightweight to have ever graced the UFC octagon.
Michael Bisping in his recent YouTube video breaking down UFC 280 claimed Oliveira will become the greatest of all time if he manages to beat Islam Makhachev. “Greatest lightweight of all time? I think if Charles beats Islam this weekend, I think that belongs to Charles now. I really do,” said Bisping in his latest video.
This conversation, however, won’t matter if the Brazilian doesn’t get past the Dagestani this weekend. If he does, it opens the doors for some uncomfortable conversations. Despite not losing at all in his professional career, Nurmagomedov sure did not stick around long enough to be undisputed in the GOAT conversation.
Michael Bisping believes Charles Oliveira’s resume will look be the best in the lightweight division with a win at UFC 280
Nurmagomedov has a record of 29-0 in his professional career and 13-0 in his UFC career. Having barely lost any rounds against his opponents, “The Eagle” stands ahead in the GOAT conversation so far. However, Oliveira beating an extraordinary lightweight as Islam Makhachev will truly make his resume better than Nurmagomedov’s believes Bisping.
“I think he will have surpassed him, simply because he’s taken out all the top contenders. And it’s not Khabib’s fault, but you cannot deny the numbers, the momentum, the history that Oliveira’s making,” said Bisping. Oliveira is currently 33-8 in his professional career.

He has already beaten two of Nurmgaomedov’s title contenders in Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. Oliveira also has the most finishes in history. Given that Islam is believed to be a regen of Nurmagomedov, the Brazilian beating Makhachev will only give more weight to “Do Bronx” in the “would have Charles Oliveira beaten Khabib Nurmagomedov?”
