Demetrious Johnson switched from UFC to ONE Championship in 2019 which left the whole MMA community in shock. ‘Mighty Mouse’ was one of the UFC’s greatest Flyweight competitors since his debut in 2011. Recently, Johnson made an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, where he and Joe discussed the difference between his current and former promotion.
When Joe asked about how One championship pays him, Johnson replied, “They pay good, it is comparable better, everybody’s contract is different, I am happy I am very happy what I am getting but everybody’s totally different”. He further explained how pay-per-view points influence payment in the UFC and fighters with more pay-per-view get paid more. Johnson also opened up about how ONE championship has been more transparent in their contract negotiation compared to UFC.
Demetrious Johnson made his ONE Championship debut in 2019 and has been able to successfully replicate the success he achieved in the UFC. He was also successful in capturing the ONE Flyweight Championship. The fighter even has a win against the reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, Rodding Jitmuangnon in a Mixed Rules match.

Joe Rogan comments about the mixed rule match between Demetrious Johnson vs Rodtang Jitmuangnon
Muay Thai legend Rodtang Jitmuangnon competed against former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson at ONE X to commemorate ONE Championship’s 10th anniversary. Both of them faced each other in a mixed-rule fight that combined Muay Thai and MMA.
Joe Rogan has now addressed the bout and echoed the supporters’ jubilant views. In one of the episodes of the Flagrant Podcast, Andrew Schulz asked Joe Rogan if he had the chance to watch the bout between Johnson and Rodtang. Rogan explained, “Yeah, amazing—because he had to get through that first round [against] Rodtang. Yeah, [‘Mighty Mouse’] gotta go through the first round before he can do MMA. It was a crazy rule set; I like how they did it… They did one round [of] Muay Thai; One round, of MMA. And obviously, all ‘Mighty Mouse’ had to do was get through the first round. Essentially, and then he took him down, quickly; he got his back.”

In the first round, which was contested according to Muay Thai rules, Rodtang backed Johnson to the cage and delivered many brutal blows. However, Johsnon survived the round. In the second round of the competition, which was conducted according to Mixed Martial Arts rules, Johnson won by submission via rear naked choke. This new concept of matches promoted by ONE Championship has got them a positive response from fight fans around the world.
