Jared Gordon is a name that is on the lips of every MMA fan right – despite his loss to Paddy Pimblett this past weekened, it seems like he has grown in the eyes of fans.
Entering the fight against the Liverpudlian, the New York native was the underdog to get the job finished. After three rounds where it looked like he might have Pimblett figured (especially with the mean stinging hooks), the judges decided to look the other way, resulting in a 29-28 unanimous decision victory for Paddy Pimblett.
Speaking about it with Ariel Helwani a couple of days later, he said, “They [the judges] were all over the place. Dana [White] said I threw the last round, which was my only regret in the fight… but, two of the judges gave me the last round. I lost the first round in all the judges’ scorecards – that was the most decisive round for me. I don’t know what these people were thinking or doing, I don’t know why they were so blind or swayed by outside variables.”
The only word to explain it is, bizarre. Very bizarre situation. There is no saying what the judges were doing or thinking that night.” Maintaining a strict honour code, he also added that he doesn’t believe the fight was rigged, wishing to maintain a sense of belief in the system.
Douglas Crosby, the judge under scrutiny, is under investigation by NSAC

Awry judges’ scorecards are nothing new in the sport – incongruencies in final scoring are bound to transpire given that humans can try to be objective, but personal variables usually play a big factor as well. That being said, judge Douglas Crosby’s case is a little different – prior to his stint at UFC 282, Crosby had judged a fight in Connecticut in a relatively short span of time. Additionally, he also scored a Bellator fight 50-45, with the loser on his card (Raufeon Stots) actually winning the fight.
Hence, that, coupled with the 29-28 scorecard for the Pimblett- Gordon fight has really aroused the ire of the MMA community. In quick succession, as a form of redressal for the flagrant flouting of any sense when it comes to judging a bout, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has put the judge’s decisions under review. If any wrongdoing is found, it could be the case that the MMA world was rocked by yet another scandal in a very short period of time – a couple of weeks back, James Krause was suspended from the UFC in light of suspicious betting activity, causing major furore. However, the result of the review is awaited, as fans and experts seek answers to this blatantly wrong scoring.
