Why didn’t Chael Sonnen fight at UFC 175?
Chael was initially supposed to face Wanderlei Silva. After the Brazilian failed to participate in a random drug test, the fighter was later removed from the fight and replaced by former champ, Vitor Belfort. Chael agreed to fight Vitor on short notice.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission randomly tested Sonnen the previous month of the pay-per-view event during the press conference in Las Vegas. Results of the test confirmed that the star was under the influence of two illegal substances.
This led to Chael being removed from the fight card and Vitor too was removed after the promotion failed to find him another opponent. Wanderlei Silva was also removed from the bout initially because he refused to submit to the random drug testing that took place.
