Former UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira went backstage at UFC 284 to congratulate his former opponent, Islam Makhachev on his first successful title defense.

The UFC 284 super fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev was one of the best fights to have gone down in the history of the sport. As the underdog in the build-up to the fight, Volkanovski proved a large section of the MMA community wrong when it comes to wrestling and grappling.
Islam Makhachev scored the victory in an extremely close fight with Volkanovski via a unanimous decision to become the P4P best fighter. Makhachev’s championship opponent and former champion, Charles Oliveira congratulated the Dagestani champion after his win over the Aussie champion.
Oliveira met Makhachev and his team backstage and congratulated the champion on becoming the #1 P4P fighter in the UFC. Many have called the UFC 284 main event a robbery after Volkanovski was not given the win despite finishing the fight on top of the Dagestani champion.
However, Islam Makhachev fought a well-rounded fight and put a great performance on the feet which is supposedly his weakest ability. “A well-deserved victory and title defense,” Oliveira told Islam. Charles Oliveira could possibly be Makhachev’s next opponent since the fighter has cleaned up the top 5 contenders in the lightweight division.
Joe Rogan and the team react to Volkanovski vs Makhachev at UFC 284
The UFC had announced Michael Bisping as Joe Rogan’s replacement on the commentary desk at UFC 284. But the long-time podcaster and stand-up comedian did not miss out on the fight back in Texas. Joe Rogan invited his friends Brendan Schaub, Eddie Bravo, and Bryan Callen to watch the fight live on stream.
The group reacted to the fight and was impressed by Volkanovski’s performance. After the end of the fight, Joe Rogan anticipated Volkanovski to be declared as the winner. “I guarantee Makhachev never thought that the end of the fight would be him on his f***ing back,” Rogan said.
The four friends’ initial thoughts about the fight were in favor of Volkanovski. “Are we biased?” Brendan Schaub asked after Bryan Callen and Eddie Bravo agreed that Makhachev lost. “We could definitely be biased. Have to watch it again,” Joe answered.
The competitiveness of the UFC 284 main event could very well call for a rematch sometime in the future. Alexander Volkanovski has expressed interest in coming back to the lightweight division. In the featherweight division, Interim featherweight champ, Yair Rodriguez awaits Volkanovski’s return.
