The lead-up to UFC 279 was a complete fiasco. Khamzat Chimaev missing weight ahead of his Nate Diaz fight ended up changing the fortune for several fighters on the card.

Khamzat Chimaev was originally scheduled to fight Stockton Superstar Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout for five rounds in the main event of UFC 279. This was Khamzat’s first headliner event and the fighter completely failed to make weight ahead of his fight at the official weigh-ins.

Khamzat came in weighing nearly 8 pounds over the welterweight weight limit. This led to the fighter being matched up against Kevin Holland at the last moment. In the recent exclusive footage released by Block Asset, the video shows Khamzat regretting missing weight backstage.

“F**king didn’t make weight! I swear I would’ve killed him,” Khamzat can be seen saying in the locker room after his fight against Kevin Holland. Chimaev was watching the Diaz vs Ferguson fight on the screen while he was furious about missing weight.

Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev has been an absolute phenom so far in the UFC. The Chechen fighter has taken the UFC by storm and is currently one of the biggest stars on the UFC roster. The fighter went from being the most-liked to the most-hated fighter after his weigh-in fiasco at UFC 279.

Khamzat made his debut in 2020 and since then he has gone on a 6-fight winning streak. Chimaev’s start in the Ultimate Fighting Championship has been like no other fighter. “Borz” has been a completely dominant show in almost all of his fights. The fighter has absorbed 0 strikes in four of his six fights.

He is currently 6-0 in the UFC with five finishes. The only fight where Chimaev was truly tested was his bout against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273. The fighter is now right in the mix for a welterweight title shot however, the middleweight division also seems like a possible option for Khamzat’s next fight.
