Alexandre Pantoja
Alexandre Pantoja had an ecstatic night at UFC 277. However, the UFC flyweight met with a near-disastrous moment amidst celebrations with his coach.
Celebrations after an important fight can get out of hand sometimes inside the octagon. The UFC has witnessed many such accidents inside the cage and the promotion strongly condemns any risky celebrations from the fighter’s side that could lead to a potential injury. From backflips to playful body slams going wrong, and shoulder parades, all of these celebrations are highly likely to go wrong inside the octagon after an adrenaline-filled fight.
Alexandre Pantoja can vouch for this as he almost experienced a scary moment inside the octagon at UFC 277. Pantoja won the fight against Perez via submission in the very first round. Pantoja was thrilled by his win and so was his corner. One of Pantoja’s coaches decided to lift his fighter on the shoulder and parade him around the octagon at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Thankfully, Pantoja and his coach quickly realized things were getting out of hand and recovered well, preventing any injuries that would’ve spoilt the victory party.

Where does Alexandre Pantoja stand in the flyweight division?

Alexandre Pantoja is undoubtedly a title-shot-worthy contender. He currently ranks #2 in the flyweight division. He is one of the most exciting fighters in the division and has been eager to get his hands on the belt. After his win against Perez, Pantoja directly called out the champion, Deiveson Figueiredo asking for a title shot.
The fighter has a 25-5 in his professional mixed martial arts career and is currently on a 3-fight winning streak. His last defeat in the octagon was against Askar Askarov in 2020. Pantoja also has a win over the interim flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno. Having faced both the temporary and flyweight champion of the division, Pantoja is confident he can wrap the belt around his waist if he ever gets the opportunity. The only defeats inside the UFC octagon for Pantoja have come against Askarov, Deiveson Figueiredo, and Dustin Ortiz.
Do you think Pantoja deserves to fight the winner of Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno 4?
