Conor McGregor has been out of action for a while now, as his leg fully heals up from the gruesome injury he suffered at the hands of Dustin Poirier.
The nature of McGregor’s injury was immediately visible in the octagon, as he sat down on the canvas, covering his head so as to not absorb any damage as Dustin Poirier rained down shots at him. After the first round, commentators drew attention to McGregor’s leg, which seemed to be hanging off like a hinge at an awkward angle.
Just after the fight, a lot was made of “The Notorious” and his remaining chances in the sport he was once the undisputed best at. However, one person, who has been in a similar position, came forward to provide aid to McGregor. He said, “[My advice] for Conor right now is, take time and continue work and continue doing the physiotherapy, continue working [the] upper body and stay mind outside the fight game…” It is important to bring to light the fact that Anderson Silva brutally injured his leg against Chris Weidman, so he knows a thing or two about this type of injury and setback.
To this, the Irishman could only express his sincere gratitude, writing, “I appreciate this message greatly Anderson, thank you. You know, since this freak injury happened to me, I’ve had very little support from my fellow colleagues… But no worries! I love a little scratch from a b***h…”
Conor McGregor issues a timeline for his long impending return to the octagon
It has been more than a year and a half since “The Notorious” stepped back on his shin, and split it in half. The entire MMA community, irrespective of whether they hate or love the fighter, has been waiting to see a McGregor fight, which has become rarer over time.
That being said, the Irishman’s claims for a return have become more compelling in recent months. This month, he claimed he will return to USADA testing in February, following which he shall be ready to compete. That claim presents logistical challenges – fighters must undergo a six-month testing regimen before they can compete, which means that according to his own timeline, he will fight in August next year.
Whatever be the case, it feels like a Conor McGregor fight is not too far from us. It will be interesting to see who he fights. Being who he is, he can cherry-pick his opponents, whether it be Jorge Masvidal or Michael Chandler, or someone else.
