“Walked up to my fiancée” – When Chael Sonnen revealed the origins of his HATRED for ‘dork’ LeBron James

Chael Sonnen is famous for getting into all sorts of beef with UFC fighters, and usually, the trash-talking that ensues ends up in his highlight reel. Yes, he really is one of the absolute best talkers in the business.
The preceding paragraph would make people recall his frankly hilarious encounters with Tito Ortiz, where on multiple occasions, he had Ortiz scrounging around for an answer. Another beef that fans may not know about is the relatively older one with one of the greatest basketballers ever, LeBron James. It all started when he appeared on the Jim Rome show, and called the basketballer a ‘dork’ among other things, in 2013.
Accordingly, he was then later asked why he felt the way he did, to which he said, “He asked the UFC for tickets for my fight against Anderson Silva. We sit the guy front row, and all through the night he snubs our fans. He’s a guest in our house and he refuses to sign any autographs or take any pictures unless your cup size was later in the alphabet than he was able to learn.” [H/T Bleacher Report]
Sonnen added, “The guy walked up to my fiancee backstage and asks her if there’s a Tic Tac in her blouse or if she was just happy to see him… I had a UFC employee tell me he saw a mother wheel her handicapped child up to him to get a picture.”

If what Chael Sonnen alleges is true, then, LeBron James should be in hot waters with the UFC. As a result of his antics, Sonnen didn’t stop there, issuing a fight warning for the then-Miami Heat star. He said, “It’s happening. Next time I see him he will shake that little boy’s hand, even if I have to break his arm off and take it to the boy.”
Interestingly, Chael Sonnen is not the only UFC fighter to dislike James. In 2020, Colby Covington tweeted out against LeBron James’s decision to sit out his playoff games in protest against the shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake. He then posted a couple more follow-up tweets, before prompting a response from James himself.
Well, it seems like LeBron James is not the most liked persona among UFC fighters – that being said, it’s been 9 years since the incident between James and Sonnen transpired, so it might just be water under the bridge now.
