Dana White is the kingpin of the MMA world, and as such, commands great respect in the world of combat sports, including boxing and professional wrestling.

White and former WWE CEO Vince McMahon share a cordial relationship, despite the former having jested in the face of what WWE presents to its audience – that is, much like the rest of the MMA community, it won’t be a shout to say that White believes much of the world of professional wrestling showcased in the WWE is but pomp and show. Despite that, the two maintain a decent rapporteur.

That being said, there was once a time when Vince McMahon called Dana White out to fight him – and, this was to be a real fight! Speaking about it, Dana White said, “Vince wanted to fight me—swear to God. He called me up, said, ‘Let’s do it. We can do it in the UFC, or let’s do it at WrestleMania.’ And I said, ‘You are crazy.‘”

The background for this frankly crazy callout was the fact that back in 2010, before all of this was transpired, the UFC was meanly cutting into the WWE’s share of PPVs. The WWE had been a household name for decades before the UFC could wrest itself out of its “niche and barbaric” status, hence, Vince McMahon sought to take the threat into his own hands.

Let the statistics showcase this point – Wrestlemania XXVI’s buy rate fell 12% from 2009. Coincidentally, the UFC had showcased Georges St.Pierre vs Greg Hardy just a night prior. The trend continued with UFC 117 – where Anderson Silva sought to defend against Chael Sonnen. And, Brock Lesnar’s exit from the WWE and entry into the UFC would have had McMahon licking his wounds as well. [H/T Bleacher Report]

Despite the tense situation, it seems like the two promotional heads managed to work everything out in the end. However, there still exists a story which Dana White has recounted, which could have soured their relationship, but the UFC supremo has since taken it in his stride.

Giving a little bit of background to this is necessary. After Ronda Rousey had exited White’s promotion, she entered the WWE and as such, asked for her former boss to be there – however, one must remember the intense rivalry between the two promotions. White said, “When I tell you I was in the f****** rafters … people were coming up to me and going, ‘Why are you sitting in these seats?’ I said, ‘This is where they sat me, so f*** them I’m going to sit right here.” [H/T MMA Fighting]

If what Dana White says is true, it seems like Vince McMahon had set out to show disrespect to the UFC boss. That being said, it looks like they have worked out their differences, and it is all water under the bridge, as Vince and Stephanie McMahon, along with Triple H attended UFC 276 (and were sat in great seats!).
