Colby Covington is one of the rare stories in the world of MMA where a fighter is able to change the course of their career for better through their actions outside of the octagon.
On a couple of occasions, however, Colby Covington has definitely crossed the line. After his fight with Demian Maia, where the UFC had supposedly told him that he would be cut regardless of the result, Covington called Brazilians “filthy animals” in the post-fight octagon interview. Similarly, he also happened to trash-talk Jon Jones, although they were separated by a division in between.
Amidst all of this chaos, Joe Rogan sat down with Alexander Gustaffson to discuss Colby Covington’s antics. He said, “Jon Jones is going to be in front of you one day, gotta be careful, watch your f**king words, you’re gonna get slapped in the face by a man who can kill you with his hands. That’s a bad move.”
After that, the duo talked about Covington’s upcoming fight with Rafael Dos Anjos. Rogan said, “He’s in a dangerous situation right now. He’s gonna fight Dos Anjos, he talked crazy sh*t about Brazilians, they were gonna fight in Brazil, but they moved the fight to Chicago. For Colby, thank the Baby Jesus.”

Despite the strong words, Joe Rogan has praised Colby Covington on multiple occasions
In the clip, Joe Rogan can be seen favouring Dos Anjos as the one to get the nod, because of his superior stand-up. That, however, was not the case – the two fought in June 2018, and Covington got the unanimous decision victory over the Brazilian.
In spite of Joe Rogan condemning the aggressive trash talk, he has, on many occasions given props to Covington for being a top-grade fighter. Immediately in the aftermath of the Dos Anjos fight, he spoke on his podcast, “He [Colby Covington] beat the shit out of him, he literally beat him every round… it was just constant attack. I was very impressed… Colby melted him.”
Colby Covington, despite his brash persona, has had quite a few notable wins outside of the two losses to Kamaru Usman – his resume includes victories over Robbie Lawler, Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal. Now, a potential Covington vs Chimaev fight is in the making, and if that does materialize, the American might just face the toughest test of his career to date.
