“I couldn’t pull off,” When UFC President Dana White revealed the fight he regretted not making in MMA
Dana White during a press conference
MMA is the fastest-growing sport in the world, and UFC President Dana White deserves the credit for it. In 2001, White and his cousin purchased the UFC, a sinking ship back then. However, displaying immense love and passion for MMA. White was able to transform the future of the promotion and the sport. He brought MMA to the homes of almost every combat fan and grew the company beyond immeasurable heights.
Throughout his career as the top man in the UFC, White also treated fans by booking some of the biggest fights MMA has seen. Whether it was Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather or McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov, White made it all possible. However, just like anyone else, the UFC President has had his fair share of failures. He recently spoke about one of his matchmaking failures during a Q&A.
“I’ve made every fight that was ever possible to make in MMA including Mayweather and McGregor. The only fight that I ever failed to make was Fedor vs. Brock. Every other fight that we ever thought about or fans wanted to see or whatever it was, I made. That’s probably the one I couldn’t pull off,” said the UFC President.
Despite there being a lot of excitement amongst fans for a bout between Lesnar vs Emelianenko, at the end of the White couldn’t make the fight. While he blamed one party for not accepting the bout, he also revealed who would win in a potential fight between Lesnar and Emelianenko.
Dana White on who would win between Brock Lesnar and Fedor Emelianenko
Fedor Emelianenko is considered to be the greatest fighter of all time by many. Having competed in prestigious organizations such as Pride FC, Rizin, and Bellator MMA, Emelianenko beat many big names throughout his career. However, the only blemish on Fedor Emelianenko’s legendary MMA career is that he never competed in the UFC.
Despite not fighting for the world’s leading promotion, Emelianenko is still considered the GOAT, and that is impressive enough. However, him not fighting in the UFC should not be mistaken as the promotion’s unwillingness to sign him. In fact, UFC President Dana White made many attempts to lure ‘The Last Emperor and make his fight Brock Lesnar, unfortunately, the attempts failed. White blamed the failure on the Russian and also picked a winner between Fedor and Lesnar if they were to fight.
In a conversation with GQ Sports, White said, “Obviously I’m very biased when answering this question, but I’m going with Brock Lesnar… Brock wanted the fight. I tried to make the fight. We offered Fedor Emelianenko an ungodly amount of money, and they didn’t want the fight. I don’t know what to tell you.”
Well, regardless of who was responsible for Emelianenko and Lesnar not fighting, the real losers were MMA fans. With both athletes now towards the twilight of their careers, a fight between the duo does not seem likely. Who do you think would pick the win if Lesnar and Emelianenko squared off against each other?
