Jon Jones is ready to make his comeback to the UFC octagon after three years of inactivity. The fighter reportedly took the time off to focus on building a heavyweight physique for his return. So where does Jonny Bones train and under whom?
Born in Rochester, New York, Jon Jones made his UFC debut in 2008 against Andre Gusmao at 20 years old. Jones’ accolades as an MMA fighter are known throughout the community. But before entering the octagon, Jones was a stand-out wrestler in high school and a state champion in upstate New York.
Jones has also played football as a defensive lineman and an NJCAA national wrestling championship. The 35-year-old veteran was just 23 years old when he became the youngest UFC champion ever. Since then, Jones’ career has never slowed down.
The former light heavyweight champion has 14 successful consecutive title fights and has never lost a title defense. The only loss on Jones’ resume came via disqualification after Jones landed an illegal 12/6 elbow on Matt Hamill. However, fans rule out the loss due to Jones’ dominance in the fight before the DQ.

Jon Jones’ training camps and championship mindset; where does it come from?
Despite his many controversies outside the UFC octagon, Jon Jones has always maintained his resume as a fighter. Long-time podcaster and UFC commentator, Joe Rogan has called Jones a born fighter on many different occasions.
The New York-born fighter is known for his long training camps with his head coach, Greg Jackson. After signing with the UFC as a light heavyweight prospect, Jon Jones traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to train at Team Bombsquad. Later, in 2009 Jones joined Greg Jackson to take MMA as a serious profession.
Since then, Jones’ training camps took place in Albuquerque at Jackson Wink MMA academy wherein Jones trained from 2009 to 2021. Greg Jackson instilled the values of a true champion within Jon Jones, who later went on to acquire the UFC title in 2011 and ruled the division till 2020.
In 2021, Jones was banned from Jackson Wink MMA Academy following charges of misdemeanor battery and domestic violence plus a felony charge of injuring or tampering with a vehicle. Jones later joined Jackson’s MMA Acoma and Henry Cejudo’s Fight Ready gym in 2021, both based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Jon Jones is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Roberto Alancar and a black belt in Gaidojutsu under Greg Jackson. Jones will take up Ciryl Gane this Saturday, March 4 for the vacant UFC heavyweight champion.
