Khabib Nurmagomedov retired two years ago. After several clarifications from the fighter himself, it is still hard for people to believe they won’t get to see the lightweight monster back in the octagon. Joe Rogan and Kamaru Usman discuss the possibilities of Khabib returning to the octagon if Charles Oliveira pulls off a win against Islam Makhachev.
UFC 280 is headlined by one of the biggest lightweight matchups of all time. Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhchev face each other in the main event held in Abu Dhabi for the lightweight belt. A lot of different storylines play into this fight and one of the main shticks of the fight will be to see if Makhachev can carry the legacy of his training partner, friend, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Joe Rogan, a huge fan of the Dagestani talks to Kamaru Usman, who is also a friend of The Eagle, about a possible return of Nurmagomedov. Joe mentioned that Khabib turned down an opportunity to take part in even a grappling match. But Rogan just can’t stop getting excited over the “What If” of Khabib returning to fight Oliveira after the Brazilian defeats Islam.
“What if Charles Oliveira beats Islam Makhachev? What happens then? What if he submits him?” asked Rogan being very optimistic about a Khabib comeback. However, Kamaru, who is very close to the Dagestani fighter, doesn’t see him returning.

Kamaru Usman explains why Khabib Nurmagomedov won’t return from retirement
Khabib has already said that he will never come out of retirement. The fighter retired in the year 2020 after accumulating a record of 29-0 in his professional career. He retired as the pound-for-pound champion and went out on a high note. Usman believes no matter what the result of UFC 280 is, we will never see Khabib fighting in the octagon again.
“It makes it easier for Khabib to say no. First of all, I don’t think he gets down to 155 ever again. No way now. He’s a light heavyweight. No way in hell he gets down to [155] and he’s a solid light heavyweight. He’s holding down light heavyweights and submitting them. He’s a bear. He’s like a short stocky bear right now,” said Kamaru on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
Khabib is currently out of professional fighting but is not entirely out of mixed martial arts. The former champ runs his own promotion in EAGLE FC and also is a coach now helping his teammates to achieve their dreams in mixed martial arts. Khabib will be in the corner of Islam Makhachev when he fights Charles Oliveira which will be an interesting sight to watch.
