Will Nate Diaz get a title shot if he beats Khamzat Chimaev? – UFC boss Dana White gives interesting answer
Dana White and Nate Diaz (L) Khamzat Chimaev (R)
Dana White has already heard enough from the critics about the upcoming Khamzat Chimaev vs Nate Diaz matchup for UFC 279. The UFC boss believes the matchup is a fair one and also thinks both the fighters have equal stakes in this fight.
Khamzat Chimaev is one of the most dangerous fighters on the UFC roster right now. The #3 ranked welterweight beat a former title contender after only 4 fights in the octagon. He is yet to be undefeated and is now paired against veteran Nate Diaz on the last fight of his contract. This matchup got a lot of backlashes and was also considered an assassination from the promotion’s side towards the Diaz brother.
However, Dana is tired of the people writing off Diaz in this upcoming fight. This fight is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. White had previously said that if Khamzat beats the Diaz brother, he will get the fight for the welterweight title next. In his recent interview with John Morgan of MMA Underground, Dana also answered if Nate would get the title shot if he ended Khamzat’s unbeaten run at UFC 279.
Dana White says it is possible for Nate Diaz to beat Khamzat
Khamzat burst through the welterweight rankings and is currently sat at the #3 spot in the welterweight division after his win over Gilbert Burns in his last fight. Nate on the other hand is coming off a loss against Leon Edwards and is on the verge of leaving the promotion after his Khamzat fight. However, Dana’s answer might change the Diaz brother’s decision to leave.
“I mean, obviously if Nate beats Khamzat Chimaev, the no. 3 guy in the world. you’d have to look at Nate, too,” said Dana when asked by John Morgan about a possible Diaz title shot. “Everybody’s talking like that it’s impossible for Nate Diaz to win this fight. Nothing is impossible in fighting. Everything is possible,” added White.
Nate and the promotion have had their share of disputes. The Stockton Slugger is still blasting the MMA organization for the poor treatment. Diaz is a huge underdog in this fight and it would be a complete meltdown in the MMA world if he manages to beat Chimaev in the upcoming fight.
