“Skipping again?” Yair Rodriguez launches a vicious criticism of Alexander Volkanovski as he aims for lightweight gold

“Skipping again?” Yair Rodriguez launches a vicious criticism of Alexander Volkanovski as he aims for lightweight gold

Yair feels that the champion is repeatedly ducking him

Yair Rodriguez firmly believes that he is ready for Alexander Volkanovski. Yair recently won his fight against Brian Ortega when the BJJ maestro popped out his shoulder while trying to escape an armbar attempt from Yair early in round 1. The two had been close friends before and it took a lot to make them fight, with an immediate title shot on the line.

While many were unhappy with the way things turned out during the fight, Yair is confident enough in his abilities that he trusts that he can be the one to really challenge Volkanovski. While not a glorious victory, in MMA, injuring your opponent to the point he cannot continue is the primary objective. In that regard, Yair’s victory over Ortega was as legitimate as it can get.

However, the champ himself doesn’t share this sentiment. He believes that Yair does deserve a title fight, but not against him just yet, on the MMA Hour podcast, Alex revealed that he wishes to see Josh Emmett and Yair, face each other for the interim title while he tries to capture lightweight gold.

It seemed like a favorable proposal to all involved on the surface. Not for Yair. He feels that he was being robbed of his title shot by Volkanovski, yet again. He took to Twitter to vent out his anger toward Volk.

Posting an edited picture of the two facing off, Yair wrote, “Hey (Alexander Volkanovski) let’s make it easy. You gonna try and skip me again like last time or we doing it for real? ” unclear as to what the last time Alex ducked Yair was since Yair had been missing from action for almost two years prior to his bout against Max Holloway.

Yair then went on to ask the champ to close the year in style and give the Mexican the title shot he feels he deserves. He said, “You know I’m next, everyone does. Let’s close the year at Vegas, or we can do it in your home country, “ proposing to the Aussie that he was ready to face him in the land down under if that’s what it took.

Yair then wished well for Volkanovski, taking time out to heal a broken hand he suffered against Holloway, saying, “Speedy recovery champ see you soon! “

While Yair does deserve to be in line to gain a title shot the same can be said about Josh Emmet who just put up a much more electrifying performance against another top contender in Calvin Kattar

Do you think the UFC should create an interim title in the meanwhile? Or should Volk keep his lightweight dreams at bay for now and clear out his division?
