Alex Pereira has experienced a remarkable ascent in the UFC. Just a few years back, ‘Poatan’ was an unrecognized fighter in the MMA community. Pereira went on to become a UFC two-division champion. Pereira joined the amazing lineage of Brazilian champions in the UFC, such as Anderson Silva, Fabricio Werdum, Charles Oliveira, Jose Aldo, and many more.

A rare video of Alex Pereira made its rounds on social media. It is from back in 2019 when Pereira was with Anderson Silva. Pereira was in Anderson Silva’s corner during Silva’s fight against Israel Adesanya at UFC 234 in 2019.

Despite their friendship, Anderson Silva has expressed opinions about Pereira’s decisions in the MMA world. UFC legend Anderson Silva disapproved of Alex Pereira‘s move to the light heavyweight division (205 lbs). Silva had hoped Pereira would reclaim the middleweight belt before making the switch, emphasizing his desire for Pereira’s success in the lower weight class.

Silva believed Pereira would not return to the middleweight division after moving to 205. The UFC legend’s opinions stem from a strategic perspective, expressing concern about Pereira’s chances in the new weight class and the potential lack of opportunities for a return to middleweight.

Daniel Cormier marvels at Alex Pereira’s quick success in the UFC

Daniel Cormier was astonished by Alex Pereira’s rapid success in the UFC. The UFC veteran considered it “unheard of” in the promotion’s history. ‘Poatan’ recently won his second UFC belt with a TKO victory over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden.

Daniel Cormier acknowledged Pereira’s achievement as a two-division champion. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Cormier said:

This man has 11 MMA fights, seven UFC fights, and he’s won two belts. It’s unheard of.

Poatan competed in the middleweight and then moved on to the light heavyweight division in the UFC. Pereira holds a professional MMA record of 9 wins and two losses. Before entering the UFC, Pereira gained recognition in kickboxing, particularly in Glory Kickboxing. There, Pereira held the Glory middleweight and light heavyweight championships.
