‘The plan is to frustrate him’ – Rob Font reveals his gameplan for his upcoming fight with Cody Garbrandt

Cody Garbrandt and Rob Font

Rob Font takes on Cody Garbrandt this weekend in the main event of UFC Fight Night 188. It is a match of high stakes, since it features two of the top-ranked bantamweights. Font is ranked number 3, whereas Cody sits just a position below him, at number 4. The winner of the fight might probably land a title shot.

Font recently spoke to Just Scrap Radio of BJPenn.com. He claimed that he has planned to frustrate Garbrandt as much as possible. Font however did say that it would be dangerous to not knock Garbrandt out, since he would either knock out or get knocked out. He also acknowledged how clean and cheeky Garbrandt’s knockout was against Raphael Assuncao at UFC 250.

‘It’s an exciting challenge and a scary challenge’ – Rob Font

Font was quoted as saying, “That is exactly what you get with Cody. You are either knocking him out or he’s knocking you out. He’s a dangerous guy, he looked a lot more patient in the Assuncao fight and it was pretty gangster how he pulled that off. You have to worry about that with a guy like Cody. It’s an exciting challenge and a scary challenge, I plan on frustrating this guy and making him make a mistake and make him pay.” [via BJPenn.com]

He continued, “Yeah, I’m trying to go in there, stay behind the jab and keep it simple and boring with the long straight cross. The plan is to frustrate him with the lead hand, the kicks, the movement. Get him to overcommit and make him pay.”

Cody Garbrandt has recovered from a massive slump!

Gabrandt went into his fight against TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217, as the bantamweight champion. His massive career slump started there as he was knocked out by Dillashaw, eventually losing his bantamweight title, as well. His plans of reclaiming his title at UFC 227 failed badly, as he was knocked out by Dillashaw again.

‘No Love’ took on Pedro Munhoz next, and was knocked out again. Just when it seemed like everything was lost, he snapped his three-fight skid with a win over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 250.
