“I’m not too worried,” Sean O’Malley explains why he didn’t take the Frankie Edgar fight in New York at UFC 268
Sean O Malley
Sean O’Malley was the initial target for UFC veteran Frankie Edgar at UFC 268 before Marlon Vera stepped up. Suga Show explains why he declined the offer.
Sean O’Malley was offered to be a part of a ridiculously amazing card, UFC 268 on November 6th which is scheduled to take place in the Madison Square Garden in New York. The fan-favorite fighter did not take the fight not because he didn’t want to be matched up against Frankie Edgar but it had to do with the city of New York because of its tax rates. O’Malley declining this fight also led to a clash between the promotion and the fighter but that beef has been settled.
Recently Sean explained everything in detail to The Schmo. Sean feels like he has become a top fighter and can sell a lot of tickets no matter where he fights. The Suga Show believes he now has the privilege to turn down fights and postpone them if he likes to. O’Malley revealed that he was also open to fighting Frankie Edgar maybe in the next pay-per-view event at UFC 269 but the UFC was stubborn about Edgar fighting in New York and decided to go with Chito Vera instead.
Sean O’Malley wants to fight Dominick Cruz in December
“But yeah, I got offered a fight in New York against Frankie, and I said if Frankie wants to get whooped, he can get whooped in Vegas in December, a month later. They want Frankie to fight in New York, so they gave him ‘Chito’. Getting the ‘Suga Show’ against Frankie would’ve been a great fight for me, but I’m not too worried about it,” said O’Malley.
Regarding his next fight, Sean is looking to take on Dominick Cruz probably before the end of 2021. “Who will it be? Dominick Cruz? Could be, I don’t know,” O’Malley said. “If he wants to fight in December in Vegas, I would love to dance with him. I don’t think it will be Dominick, I don’t think he’ll take that fight. If not, I don’t know, and to be honest, I don’t really care if it’s a top-10 guy, a top-15 guy, a bum on the street. I’m gonna get paid the same. Whoever I beat up, I’m getting paid the same. Don’t care.” ended O’Malley.
