In an interview with MMA Junkie correspondent Mike Bohn, Strickland talks about the title contention scenario for his division, whose current title holder is Israel Adesanya. Adesanya is expected to go against the #1 middleweight and the former champion himself Robert Whittaker at UFC 271. But there are certain disagreements on the bout schedule going between Adesanya and UFC President Dana White, which is an altogether different story.

Strickland says that after this fight at UFC 271, if the winner of Derek Brunson vs Jared Cannonier at UFC 270 is Brunson, then Strickland himself deserves the title shot next for whatsoever reasons, but if Cannonier beats Brunson, then Cannonier is next in line for the title shot. Following this in the flow of the conversation, Strickland made his pick for Adesanya vs Whittaker.

“Whittaker ain’t gonna beat Izzy (Adesanya’s short name). No offence Whittaker you’re a f**king savage [pointing at the camera], I am a fan dude, but you ain’t gonna beat him.”
