‘Then it slowly all shut off… It was weird’ – Shane Burgos details his bizarre knockout against Edson Barboza
Shane Burgos bizarre knockout against Edson Barboza at UFC 262
Shane Burgos suffered a weird knockout at UFC 262 against Edson Barboza. Both the fighters were going toe-to-toe until the third round. Barboza’s right hook clipped Burgos, but he appeared to be steady. However, 5-6 seconds later Burgos shut down slowly, moving backwards haphazardly without control, before crashing into the cage.
He recently opened up on a myriad of topics in a recent interview with What the Heck. Burgos shed further light on that fateful incident in his interview. He however, assured that he has recovered pretty well, and is now not having any headaches or illness related to that.
‘When he threw the punch, it was just so fast’ – Shane Burgos
Burgos was quoted as saying, “So my mind was all there, my body just wasn’t. My legs just completely… it was slowly and then [snap] just off and I fell back into the cage. That was it. When he threw the punch, it was just so fast and I thought he just hit me with something and I was like, all right. Then it slowly all shut off. It was weird. I saw some doctor did a review—I didn’t watch it—but I heard they were attributing it to my conditioning and to my cardio, and I guess that’s a compliment. But it sucks.“
With that loss, Burgos is currently on a two-fight skid. He was coming off a disappointing unanimous decision Josh Emmett and was looking for a win at UFC 262 against Barboza. However, he will use this fateful night as a lesson in his future fights. In fact, he was going about his business in the fight quite well, before that bizarre knockout happened.
‘Physically I feel pretty good‘ – Shane Burgos
Burgos then addressed everyone that he was recovering pretty well: He said, “Physically I feel pretty good. I’ve got some bumps and bruises, no headaches or anything like that. I feel pretty damn good. I’m just ready to get back to training. I want to so f*ckin bad but, obviously, I’m taking it safe. I have a family so I take my health very seriously so I’m taking it easy. I’m able to ride the bike and stuff like that so I’ve been doing that basically every day. Other than that, I can’t wait to get back to training.“
Hope Burgos recovers soon and makes a strong comeback!
