Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is one of the best fighters that has graced the UFC octagon. “Do Bronx” has one of the best come-up stories and has seen the highs and lows of the fight game. The Brazilian fighter has a very humble personality and gives off a very nerd vibe with his reading glasses but don’t let that fool you. “Do Bronx” is a straight killer and submission specialist.
The weightclass Charles Oliveira fights in is no joke. If fighting top fighters were not hard enough, the Brazilian does it with questionable eyesight. In an appearance on the Flow Podcast, Charles revealed this shocking secret of his eyesight. According to the champion, he is only 50% visually impaired when he removes his glasses.
“I’ll tell you the truth, I’m a guy who has a lot of faith in God and it’s no joke. If I take my glasses off, I can see only fifty percent,” said Oliveira in the podcast. However, Charles says that has never come in his way as an obstacle when he fights inside the octagon. Watch the entire podcast below:
Charles Oliveira became the world champion with a bad eyesight!
After Charles revealed this news about his eyesight, it is only right we add him to the list of fighters that are a true BMF. One example of such a fighter is former middleweight champion Michael Bisping who fought with only one eye and eventually became the champion at the end of his career. Charles has been fighting in the UFC since 2012 and has fought the best of the best.
Despite his vision problems, Charles believes by god’s grace he has never had any problems during fights. “It never hindered me in the fight. Sometimes I walk in without the glasses….sometimes I walk in with the glasses. It depends on my vibe. Sometimes I like to walk in with glasses to look harmless and nerdier than I already am,” said Oliveira on the podcast.
“And when I take my glasses off, it is normal and I can see my opponent on the other side. God blesses me so much that I can see normal. But on the street, if I take it off, I’m blind.”
